The eighth grade year has not been the best so far. Homework has been an overload for nearly every eighth grade student. There is no time for us to just be kids, which we are, or spend time with family. They say they're preparing us for high school, but every high school student my friends or I have talked to say they don't get this much homework and it isn't too difficult. Talking to teachers about it is impossible. If we say we get too much and that it's hard to complete, they just say, "time management." I manage my time the best I can, and there's only so much time in a day, but I have so much homework that most of the time I just want to rip my hair out and scream at the top of my lungs (I don't though). When I come up the stairs with books in my bag to getting different ones, my mom says, "You're still working on homework?" in a sympathetic tone. She doesn't like it when I have lots of homework, and neither do I. Homework shouldn't be our life, it's not even really a life and it's unhealthy. It makes people tired, frustrated, and, worst of all, stressed. Stress is very unhealthy, especially for kids because it causes acne to break out more, insomnia, and depression. Also, when they're older, they have a higher chance of heart attack. It also causes:
High blood pressure
Memory problems
Constant worrying
Nausea/dizziness
Irritability
Difficulty concentrating
Appetite changes
Agitation
Moodiness
Negativity/pessimism
Sleeping too little or too much
Anxious or racing thoughts
Chest pain/rapid heartbeat
Feeling overwhelmed
Frequent colds
Feeling of loneliness
Diarrhea or constipation
Aches and pains
Nervous habits such as biting nails
Constipation
I don't really have a life outside of homework and I don't like it. I don't ever get to socialize besides in school and I don't get to spend much time with my family. As you can see stress is unhealthy, so do the teachers care about our health at all? Can't they lighten up on homework at all?
